Ever have a Scrubs moment? My last few days have been full of them. Especially at work. I feel like people might burst into song at any moment. A full chorus line in the middle of circulation. See, we’re not allowed to discuss politics at work. I’m not actually sure why, but I’m suspicious it has to do with us being part of the municipality. Paid by the government tends to equal being very careful about expressing political views. The more likely situation: admin would prefer fights not break out in the new non-fiction on the third floor.
Just because we’re not allowed to talk about it, doesn’t mean people don’t make their political beliefs known. Soon after the order came down buttons, bumper stickers, and ribbonsappeared. Certainly hope couldn’t be outlawed. Maverick is just a cheesy Mel Gibson movie that needs to go up to the 4th floor, right? There is a swift undercurrent flowing through offices and work stations and the tension still has another twenty-one days to build.
Now I’ve already voted, so maybe that’s what is keeping me sane through this. I sent my absentee ballot in weeks ago. It helps that part of working for The Company means you absolutely cannot be seen supporting a political candidate while on Company time. Big no-no. That doesn’t mean that I don’t hear the mutters. The whispers between sides. Two shelvers passed in the stacks on Friday and I could swear they were snapping.
I’ve been trying not to take it too seriously. But if everyone shows up one day in color coordinated outfits and dance shoes, I’m running like hell.
This is awesome! Very creative, visually stimulating and funny. You just made my day!!!
OBAMA!
Oops, that just slipped out.

Not allowed to discuss politics at work?! Can you discuss Project Runway? Because if you can’t discuss those two things, well then, I think I’d call in sick until it’s time to pack up and go home.

I think my Scrubs moments are when I want to go all Dr. Cox on people at work when they’re discussing politics!
